Village CoeUr D’Amour

Supporting parents Raising Children With Disabilities:
Drug Abuse, Alcoholism, Mental Health, & Physical Disabilities

It takes a village is a well-known African proverb that embraces the concept of the entire community providing a safe, physically, emotionally, and positively reinforced environment for a child to be raised up as a well-rounded productive adult. It may seem to be an old cliché but Village Couer D’Amour, a BAAADU Festival Inc. charitable organization’s mission, recognizes how powerful that cliché is and re-invents it with a clear understanding how important a village is within a community. It’s not just for the proper growth and rearing of children but for the support of parents who need the strength, support, advice, resources, and backbone of a community willing to extend a hand, a heart, and understanding on how difficult it can be to raise a healthy child with the abundances of negative influences and/or surrounding mental diagnosis and physical impairments of the child.
Village Couer D’Amour has a different approach. We know how hard it is to find a place to go and speak with people who are struggling at home. That’s why we decided to create a traveling village. Our goal is to seek out parents who need help and bring them into our community. Websites are informative and provide outstanding resources but once you close your laptop you may still feel alone. Village Couer D’Amour hosts events that bring people together that have a list of commonalities to share with one another through Mann Talk, which is centered on informational conversations with parents followed by meet and great mixers to connect and befriend other parents going through the same stresses. In other words, we walk the talk and bring real support and make connections for parents.

Our Mann Talk events will provide the opportunity to:
  • Network & gain the support from other parents who are going through the same things you are.
  • Receive information to resources.
  • Ask questions.
  • Exhale in a judgement free zone.
  • Share your story and be heard because sometimes even other family members just don't get it.
